Resources for identifying and supporting young carers

The Young Carers team has produced two learning resources for staff and pupils to help with the identification and support schools provide for young carers – one resource is for primary age schools and one is for secondary age schools.

  • Identifying & Supporting Young Carers in Primary School – a learning resource for staff and pupils
  • Identifying & Supporting Young Carers in Secondary School – a learning resource for staff and students

These learning resources contain a wealth of information as well as a variety of suggested lesson plans and activities.  It is hoped that schools will find this a creative and flexible way of raising awareness about young carers amongst staff and students so that Young Carers can be best supported within the school environment.

The learning resources and further information can be found on the West Sussex Services for Schools website.

For downloadable resources such as training sessions for school staff, films, an assembly activity, posters, lesson plans (English, Art, Drama, Music, PSHCE) take a look at the learning resources developed by the Young Carers Family Service for primary and secondary schools.
